The murder case of Dae'von Bailey, a six year old who was beaten to death last summer, was finally wrapped up in Compton Superior Court this week.

Marcas Catrell Fisher, 36, pleaded guilty to a first degree murder charge. On Tuesday December 15, Fisher was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison. Prosecutors agreed to drop the second charge against Fisher, which was a count of assault of a child causing death, in exchange for his plea to the murder charge. This process of negotiating the charge is typically done by a Los Angeles criminal defense lawyer. These types of negotiations are made in many criminal cases.

Many people in Los Angeles believe the murder of Bailey could have easilly been avoided if the County Department of Children and Family Services in Los Angeles took more initiative to get involved. This is why his story is sad.

Fisher's ex-girlfriend was the mother of Bailey, where the mother had left her son in Fisher's care. According to KTLA News, the six year old boy had told his school that Fisher had beaten him twice and that he had to have medical care due to abuse. School officials then told the Department of Children and Family Services about the situation. The Department had several tips about possible abuse involving the boy, but Fisher denied the abuse claims and social workers let the child remain with him.

The police say that Fisher also had a prior criminal record before the incident. He was on probation for burglary and drug convictions and was convicted of gang rape when he was a teenager.
