Marijuana Found in Teddy Bear

A teddy bear might be the last place somebody would think to look when searching for drugs.

So perhaps it's obvious that when a person wanted to send marijuana from Thousand Oaks to a Colorado residence, the cannabis was hidden in a teddy bear toy to avoid the possibility of police finding the drugs. Only one problem...the teddy bear filled with marijuana was sent to the wrong address (perhaps intentionally).

The package that was sent from Thousand Oaks had the return address of the Orange County toy shop, Toy Town, located in Ladera Ranch. Toy Town owner Joshua Vecchione called Orange County Sheriff officials when he opened the two foot tall blue teddy bear and noticed that the stuffed animal was "hard and crinkly," according to Associated Press.

Inside the teddy bear, authorities found three large vacuum-sealed packages of marijuana, measuring approximately 10 inches by 10 inches by 2 inches in size. Now that's a lot of pot! If the bear were a person, he could be charged with a misdemeanor for marijuana possession.

Marijuana laws in California can be tricky, and are considerably different from anywhere else in the United States, thanks to Proposition 215 that establishes specific laws for medical marijuana patients.

Non-medical marijuana patients are usually charged with an infraction if they're in possession of less than 28.5 grams of marijuana, which is punishable with a fine of up to $100. If a person is in possession of more than 28.5 grams of marijuana, it is usually charged as a misdemeanor that is punishable with up to 6 months in jail and a fine up to $500.
