A husband and wife from Temple City who've been accused of operating a multi-million dollar prostitution ring in Pasadena need all the help they can get from criminal lawyers in Los Angeles county.

Li Chen, 32, and her husband Thanh Ly, 35,  allegedly operated a prostitution ring that involved 24 women offering services at upscale apartment complexes. The couple was arrested last month on charges of pimping and pandering. In addition, four females have been arrested on prostitution charges.

Yet Chen and Ly have pleaded not guilty to the charges, even though their arrest was followed by a two year investigation. The husband and wife are being held in leiu of $2 million bail, and are awaiting a preliminary trial that's scheduled for January 25.

Both pimping and pandering are usually considered felony charges. If Chen and Ly are convicted of the charges, they'll likely spend a minimum of three years in prison. Some people in Los Angeles County might see the operation of a prostitution ring as a harmless offense, but law enforcers disagree and see pimping and pandering as crimes against humanity.

Pasadena Star-News reports acting police chief of Pasadena, Chris Vicino, saying that busting up and eliminating an alleged prostitutoin ring improves the quality of life in a city.

"Prostitution is not a victimless crime as some would argue," Vicino said in the Pasadena Star-News article. "It negatively impacts the quality of life and very fabric of the community."
