The R&B singer Chris Brown was in Los Angeles Superior Court yesterday for a progress hearing on his probation, according to Los Angeles Daily News.

The 20-year-old pop star was sentenced to five years probation and to complete a year long domestic violence program after he pleaded guilty last June to assaulting his former girlfriend the pop singer Rihanna. Chris Brown was also ordered to complete 180 days of community service.

The singer seems to be right on track when it comes to his probation. The Los Angeles Times reports that the progress hearing lasted less than two minutes, but that Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg told Chris Brown, "It looks like you are doing really, really well."

The judge also stated that the pop star has not missed a single domestic violence class session and that Mr. Brown is now a third of the way through the program. His Los Angeles criminal defense lawyer, Mark Geragos, presented proof to the judge of his attendance.

Since the incident, Mr. Brown has made a public apology to Rihanna. Los Angeles Daily News quotes the singer saying, "I am truly, truly sorry ... that I wasn't able to handle the situation both differently and better."

A protective order was also established in court that requires Mr. Brown to stay at least 100 yards away from Rihanna, unless they are both attending an entertainment industry function, during which the restriction would be lowered to 10 yards.

With a stellar progress report, Los Angeles Daily News reports that Mr. Brown will next return to the downtown Los Angeles courthouse on May 11 for another progress report hearing. For more information about this case or domestic violence, please visit our Related Resources links.
