Jewelry Heist at Four Seasons Hotel

| No TrackBacks

A very skilled Los Angeles burglar was somehow able to steal $45,000 worth of jewelry from the Florida billionaire Jose Pepe Fanjul and his wife Emilia at the Four Seasons Hotel in Los Angeles. The most shocking thing was that the burglar stole the items while he was in the hotel room with the couple, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The burglar posed as a hotel employee and said that he needed to fix the air conditioner vent in their room. Los Angeles police described the suspect as a man in his mid-30s with slicked-back black hair and wearing tuxedo-style clothing.

Mr. Fanjul is considered to be one of the wealthiest men in the world. The man owns a large scale sugar-growing refining firm and was in Los Angeles to attend the Oscars. Police believe that the suspect could be linked to other large-scale burglaries in the area as well.

"He has all the makings of that rare breed of sophisticated cat burglar," Lt. Paul Vernon of the Los Angeles Police Department told Los Angeles Times.

FindLaw reports that burglary crimes are treated less severely then robbery crimes, which involve the use of force or fear to obtain another person's property. But since the suspect took such valuable possessions; he could be charged with a felony. Los Angeles criminal defense attorneys are typically able to help burglary suspects get off with lenient punishments, if they are first time offenders. The severity of a sentence is usually determined by the degree of the burglary.
