Police arrested Santa Clarita City Council Candidate Johnny Pride last week on suspicion of sexually assaulting two teenage girls. However, the candidate may not even need a criminal attorney in Los Angeles County because prosecutors have so far failed to file criminal charges against him.
The Los Angeles Times reports that the district attorney's office cites insufficient evidence for not bringing charges against Mr. Pride. His arrest came after two 14-year-old girls reported him to authorities.
Mr. Pride, who works as a male model, was suspected of rape, lewd acts and oral copulation of two 14-year-old girls. Investigators said that the man allegedly gave the young girls alcohol at his apartment on February 27, before allegedly assaulting them in his home. The Santa Clarita Valley Signal reports that he was being held in leiu of $500,000 bail at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station jail, but that he was released on Saturday afternoon.
The investigation of Mr. Pride, which is being led by The Special Victims Bureau, is still pending on results from medical examinations of the two girls. The 26-year-old model and reality television show contestant is a well-known community member who is running for a seat on the Santa Clarita City Council in the April 13 election.
Mr. Pride has received a lot of negative publicity in connection with the alleged assault incident from various news reports. Even with the dropped charges, it could be difficult for the young man to win over Santa Clarita voters. He might need an amazing political campaign to overshadow the alleged incident.
